Although asbestos and lead-based paint have been known to be an environmental problem for decades, they can still be found in many commercial, industrial and residential buildings.  The presence of asbestos and/or lead-based paint is not a problem unless it is friable, chipping, deteriorating and unprotected.  Current regulations allow asbestos and lead-based to remain in a building as long as the integrity of the material or containment is secure.
